Osteopath in Europe (ERPO definition):

A person who independently practices osteopathic diagnosis and therapy.

The profession of an osteopath primarily involves osteopathic manipulative therapy (OMT) in parietal, visceral and cranio-sacral areas. It does not involve work with pharmacotherapy, gynaecology or surgery.

Osteopaths practice in primary care consulting physicians to ensure the optimal medical care of the patient.

Osteopaths practice alternative, parallel or complementary to standard medical care.

The educational standard of a professional osteopath is a bachelor degree or a master degree following the “Bologna Agreement” of European Union. Two models are possible: 1) fulltime education with a minimum of 4 years leading to a university bachelor or master degree. 2) Part time education equivalent to full time education with a minimum of 5 years leading to a university bachelor or master degree.
