Osteopathic
Physician
and Osteopath:
Osteopathy is practiced by two professional groups,
osteopathic physicians and osteopaths.
Both professional groups
practice
independently in
primary health care.
An osteopathic physician diagnoses and treats
patients based both on his or her medical
education/specialisation as well as osteopathic
education/specialisation.
An Osteopath diagnoses and treats patients based on
his or her osteopathic education. The education of
an Osteopath contains OMT with parietal, visceral
and cranio-sacral treatment.
Osteopathic physicians
practice in close consultation with other physicians
and health care providers to adjust the diagnosis
and therapy
according to the needs
of the patient.
Osteopaths practice in close
consultation with physicians and other health care
providers to adjust the diagnosis and therapy
according to the
needs of the patient.
