Gennaio 2011:

Dr. Johannes Mayer and Dr. Jean Michel Besnard from the EROP board attended a meeting with FORE (Forum for Osteopathic Regulation in Europe) in Antwerp. 30th of January. The atmosphere was very open and friendly and we had very interesting talks together.

FORE had representatives from 12 European countries:   Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, Germany, Ireland, France and UK

EROP:  Jean Michel Besnard (France) and Johannes Mayer (Germany)

Topics of discussion:

  • EROP had a presentation about the common and different core competencies of EROP and FORE  (see attached document)

  • I the discussion we found out, that the common competencies between osteopathic physicians and academic Osteopaths are very close together (see document)

  • The FORE bachelor and master level is an educational goal for all FORE members to go.  Many countries have only part time education for physiotherapists with 1350 hours and no bachelor degree. The intention of FORE is to upgrade all these countries to the bachelor level as a minimum standard

  • The next step will be do discuss where is the different scope of practice, where are the limits, interactions and so on.

  • FORE and EROP want promote the Osteopathy together, each group in their professional stream

This meeting was a great step forward to reduce prejudice on both sides, to develop respect and to look forward in the osteopathic future.  We will see how close we can work together and we must always be clear, that we have to stay for the physician standpoint.  If you check the attached document you will find a lot of details comparing the FORE and EROP standard.
