Osteopathic Medicine is integrative:
In modern health care systems, osteopathic medicine
possesses a strong integrative resource.
Traditionally the pathogenesis model is anchored in
standard medical practice. For the last 20 years the
bio-psycho-social model has become more popular.
The direct opposite of the pathogenesis model is the
‘salutogenesis’ model. In this model we do not look
for the morbid factors creating disease, rather we
look for the forces within the body which achieve,
restore or maintain health.
The patient centred view of health and disease in
Osteopathy can integrate nearly all theses aspects.
Simultaneously, critical thinking and ‘evidence
based’ or ‘evidence informed’ medicine are
elementary parts of osteopathic medicine. Both
aspects together are the fundamental basis of an
integrative resource.
